Urban art and music tour elevates experience with new elements for guests in top cities
LYNCHBURG, Tenn., (SEPTEMBER 5, 2018) – Art, Beats and Lyrics (AB+L), a one-of-a-kind cultural experience, returns for the 14th year touring top cities in the U.S. Established in 2004, AB+L has grown from an Atlanta art and music showcase into a nationwide exhibition of urban art and hip-hop that provides an authentic and creative experience for seasoned art collectors; beats and rhymes-lovers and today’s social media selfie-taker.
Presented by Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey in collaboration with Cult Creative, this multi-city tour brings new works of art, live performances and interactive experiences for guests in eight cities – offering platforms for emerging visual and music artists to gain national exposure beside veterans.
This year, AB+L will include electronic art exhibits that look to sync the worlds of tech and art for an astonishing visual experience. Founded and produced by Jabari Graham, and curated by acclaimed multi-medium artist Dwayne “Dubelyoo” Wright, AB+L highlights a spectrum of artists and creatives including painters, photographers and digital illustrators. Artists showcased on AB+L’s decade-plus roster include “He Ain’t Heavy” legend Gilbert Young, present-day art hero Tim Okamura and world renown imagemasters Yung Yemi, C. Flux Sing, Goldi Gold and Diwang Valdez.
Art, Beats and Lyrics hits the road with its uniquely curated showcase of visual masterpieces from nationally and internationally known artists who span a variety of styles and genres in the following cities:
Richmond, VA – September 14
Birmingham, AL – September 28
Chicago, IL – October 12
Atlanta, GA – October 19
St. Louis, MO – November 1
Houston, TX – November 9
Miami, FL – December 14
Charlotte, NC – February 15
Louisville, KY – May 4
Each year, the AB+L tour looks to transform untraditional art venues such as nightclubs, sports stadiums and warehouses into unique exhibit spaces for one night only. For the first time this year, AB+L will be transforming Richmond, Virginia’s Main St. Train Station into
an artistic retreat to launch the tour; and will conclude at NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte, NC with pieces that highlight the art of sport. “Art is considered an unreachable luxury by many.
Sometimes because of cost, but more often because of access,” says Dwayne Wright, featured artist and curator of Art, Beats and Lyrics. “AB+L has spent the last 13 years intentionally breaking down these barriers and replacing them with bridges that connect the creative and the curious.”
Music is an important component of the tour. In past years, the tour has featured creative musicians and DJs such as Kendrick Lamar, Scarface, Rhapsody and Master P. Each show is hosted by dynamic duo DJ Wally Sparks and MC Dres Tha Beatnik who masterfully
cater to every audience.
